MRO India 2011, India's first ever International Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul conference and exhibition came to a close on March 18. Industry leaders debated for the three days on issues that need to be sorted out for the smooth functioning of this vital sector of aviation.

The feather in the cap for the event was when the Chairman and Managing Director of Air India, Arvind Jadhav pledged his total support for this unique endeavour and articulated that Air India would continue to be a key sponsor for all future shows. Proposing to make MRO India an annual event, the CMD went on to suggest the formation of an MRO Association in India.

He also said that such a conference is the need of the hour particularly when the Indian aviation industry is confronting phenomenal growth and is looking forward to understand the complexities of aircraft maintenance, the strategies of cost control and the demand-supply dynamics of MRO business in India. An Expo like this highlights the need for adequate focus, coverage and recognition of the crucial aspect of aircraft maintenance, he added. Reposing confidence in MRO India, Jadhav said that this exhibition and the associated conference discussions would provide an excellent platform for all stakeholders not only to showcase their products and services but also gain extensive knowledge about MRO. “Time has come, MRO segment needs to step out and claim its due place in the Sun,” he reiterated.

Scores of speakers from home and abroad deliberated on subjects stifling the growth of the MRO Industry in India and solutions for them to set things right. Two lively interactive panel discussions brought one and all present at the conference under one roof to find solutions to some of the issues pertaining to the MRO industry.

An Award Night on Day 2 was held to recognise the contributions of various people and organisations for their yeomen service to the MRO in India.

INDIAN AVIATION, which celebrates it Silver Jubilee this year, April 16, 2011, through this issue gives the entire account of MRO India 2011. Given the success of the first show,   MRO India will again be held at the Bombay Exhibition Centre, Goregaon East, next year (2012), October 4-6.

On the occasion of our Silver Jubilee, the Publisher and the entire staff of INDIAN AVAITION join me in thanking our Patrons for the support they have accorded us for the past two and a half decades and hope that this love and support will remain for the coming years.
