INDIA’S Department of Space (DOS), during the year (2010-11), continued to pursue research and development activities of critical technologies in the area of launch vehicles and satellites towards achieving total self-reliance in all branches of space science and technology. The major highlights of the year were the successful launch of CARTOSAT-2B onboard PSLV-C15 on July 12, 2010, static test of the liquid core stage (L-110) of Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV Mk III) for the full flight duration of 200 seconds at Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre (LPSC) test facilities at Mahendragiri on September 8, 2010 and the launch of Highly Adaptable Satellite (HYLAS) developed by ISRO/Antrix under a commercial agreement with EADS/Astrium for M/s Avanti Communications Ltd.

INDIAN Civil Aviation Ministry’s Vision-2020 documents are to be believed, the growth of aviation sector has potential to absorb up to US$ 120 billion of investment. The fleet size of commercial airlines sector is expected be approximately 1000 aircraft, whereas domestic passenger numbers could reach 150-180 million by 2020.

INDIA has invited US aviation business house to take advantage of the huge potential that India throws up in the sector and to invest in the burgeoning aviation sector up to US$ 130 billion over the next decade and half.
Maintaining that India’s air passenger traffic would rise to 260 million by 2020, the Civil Aviation Secretary Dr.

UNDER the aegis of Ministry of Civil Aviation, Indo-American Chamber of Commerce in collaboration with Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Aeronautical Society of India and US-India Aviation Cooperation Program organized a Seminar on Main-tenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) – Trends and Opportunities on 9th July 2011 in New Delhi.

The Indian MRO industry is relatively undeveloped, but is attracting opportunities for rapid expansion.
