CIVIL aviation in India is growing by leaps and bounds over the past couple of years. Today the total aircraft of Indian origin with commercial airlines totals 249 and another 497 aircraft are on order by various airlines.

The sector is expected to see investments to the tune of US$ 50 billion in the next decade, mainly in the form of airport infrastructure upgrade and fleet acquisition by carriers.



The domestic and international sectors are expected to grow by at least 25 per cent in each in the next five years. The air cargo sector is also witnessing an equally rapid growths.

Need of the hour is trained manpower and engineering facilities in the country. The Government and other private enterprises are on the task of creating such facilities.
In the area of defence also the country’s armed forces are firming up their plans of equipment acquisition and are in talks with manufacturers worldwide.

The country’s aerospace manufacturing industry is also passing through an interesting phase with several of its products having entered service with customers at home; it is now seeking overseas clients.
